What is it?  Now in its early stages of development, the John Adelard Durand Scholarship Program was established with memorial gifts and donations received by the family of John Adelard Durand after his untimely death in 2002 at age 37. Occasional contributions and proceeds from an annual fund-raiser bike ride called JohnnyRide have since increased the Scholarship Program fund.
Each year the Scholarship Program makes several Academic Scholarship Awards. These awards are announced annually in May. Research Awards are available as funds permit. Research Awards may be made at any time.
The number and amount of Awards will increase as the Scholarship Program fund grows through continued fund-raising, cash donations, gifts, and bequests.

Eligibility  Awards are made without regard to race, creed, color, gender or family relationship. Preference is given to applicants who have not received an Academic Scholarship Award or Research Award. Membership in the Durand Heritage Foundation is not required.

   Applications

Academic Scholarship Awards · Application packets can be downloaded either from this site or from the Durand Heritage Foundation website· Applications must be post-marked no later than March 15 to be considered for the following academic year (e.g. an application post-marked March 15, 2012 would be considered for the 2012-2013 academic year).

Research Awards · Applicants may submit a letter of application at any time that includes

1. a brief description of the proposed research and writing project
2. an explanation of how the proposed project will enrich the Durand family history
3. the time period for the proposed research and writing project
4. the amount of funds requested (up to $300) and the intended purposes for which the Research Award will be used.

Recipients of Research Awards are expected to provide the Durand Heritage Foundation with a written copy of their completed project with the understanding that the results may be published (in consultation with the recipient) in the Foundation newsletter
