Tim Utecht from Stillwater, MN will attend
Northwestern College in St. Paul to study biology. Although still in
high school, Tim has earned 10 college credits and is working on 11
more. He intends to pursue his studies to the doctorate level and engage
in “medical research that will benefit society.” Tim receives a
scholarship award of $300. |

Jessie Chavez of Blanca, Colorado will also
enter the science field. She will attend Colorado State University in
Fort Collins to pursue a degree in biomedical science. Jessie wrote: “Most
little girls want to be a waitress, a flight attendant, or a nurse. I
wanted to be the head chef, the pilot, and the doctor.” She has a 4.0
G.P.A. in high school. Jessie receives a scholarship award of $300. |

Edward E. Durand, III, is currently studying
in St. Louis, Missouri where he is enrolled as a 1st-year seminarian at
Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, working to complete his Master’s
degree and ordination as a Lutheran minister. He is married to Patricia
(Jansma) and they have two young children, Lucas and Maleah. Edward
wrote, “My heritage was proudly instilled by my father...and I am also
teaching my children of the love, pride, and strength of this family.”
Edward receives a scholarship award of $300. |

Danielle
(Dani) Decker of Delavan, Wisconsin has been accepted for admission by
Marquette University in Milwaukee, where she plans to major in political
science and later pursue a degree in law. Dani wrote: “I have
discovered a deep passion for government and politics and intend to
pursue that into my college education...I am hoping to find a...career
in law that will allow me to combine my love of writing, history, and
politics.” Dani receives a scholarship award of $300.

Laura Valdmanis of Prior Lake, Minnesota
has been accepted for admission to several colleges but has yet to make
a final choice. She hopes to become a medical doctor. A solid “A”
student and active in school and community affairs, Laura has worked
with Habitat for Humanity, Youth Teaching Youth, as a counselor at
summer youth camps, and has participated in many other school,
community, and church activities. Recently she earned money to pay her
own way for a study trip to Germany. Laura wrote: “One of the
highlights of my year was being the only student brave enough [at a
convention] to go up and shake past Vice-President Mondale’s hand and
ask him some questions.” The media gave that incident “a lot of
coverage.” Laura receives a scholarship award of $300. |
